Chicago’s Trap Door Theatre return to Kraków with their critically acclaimed production of ‘The Martyrdom of Peter Ohey’.
Trap Door embark on a tour through three cities in Poland with their production of The Martyrdom of Peter Ohey, written by one of Poland’s most celebrated playwrights, Sławomir Mrożek and directed by Nicole Wiesner and Miguel Long. The play will be performed at the International Festival, Bez Granic (“Without Borders”) in Cieszyn, and in Kraków and Warsaw.
The tour’s first stop is in Kraków, at Teatr Scena Pod Ratuszem – The stage under the town hall tower, on Rynek, on Thursday 1st October,

Trap Door Theatre is thrilled to continue its tradition of touring its productions across the globe with The Martyrdom of Peter Ohey. This marks the theatre’s second international tour since 2025. Trap Door has been invited to perform in the International Festival, Bez Granic (“Without Borders”) in Cieszyn and will present The Martyrdom of Peter Ohey in three cities throughout Poland: in Krakow, Warsaw, and Cieszyn.
The tour’s first performance will be in Krakow. Following this, Trap Door will represent the United States at the Bez Granic festival in Cieszyn. Trap Door will close out its tour performing once more at Teatr Druga Strefa in Warsaw.
The cast includes Michael Garvey, Miguel Long, David Lovejoy, Joan Nahid, Laura Nelson, Keith Surney, and Carl Wisniewski.
One of Poland’s most celebrated playwrights, Sławomir Mrożek wrote this absurdist piece as a subtle critique of the political system of the time. In Nicole Wiesner’s adaptation of The Martyrdom of Peter Ohey, a family’s home life turns upside down when a tiger suddenly appears in their bathroom. As more and more absurd characters invade their home (a Scientist, a Government Official, a Circus Manager, and more), the family must decide whether or not to. give in and join the circus. “Under the direction of Nicole Wiesner, the cast goes for broke spectacularly to create one of the zaniest theatre outings in recent history” – Newcity Stage.
The touring production team includes Richard Norwood (Lighting Design), Kasia Olechno (Stage Manager), Miguel Long (Director/Choreographer), Nicole Wiesner (Director), and Beata Pilch (Artistic Director/Tour Director).
