CAPTAIN WITOLD PILECKI
Witold Pilecki (1901–1948) was a Polish cavalry officer, intelligence agent, and resistance leader during World War II. He is globally recognised for his unmatched bravery in voluntarily entering the Auschwitz concentration camp to gather intelligence and organise a resistance network. After surviving the war, he was falsely accused of espionage and executed by the Polish communist regime in 1948.

The hat in the photo is from the 26th Regiment of the Wielkopolskie Ulanów, named after Jan Karol Chodkiewicz in which Witold Pilecki did an officer internship in 1925.
