A roundup of some of the news stories, which caught our eye over the past week or so.
FIRST DRAGONS APPEAR ON KRAKÓW’S NEW DRAGON TRAIL
The first dragons are being installed today (22.11.23) as part of the Kraków Dragon Trail. The dragons will be installed in 7 locations, as a result of a winning proposal in a previous Citizens Budget. The figures were designed by Andrzej Mleczko and Edward Lutczyn, prepared in cooperation with the Faculty of Sculpture of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. Their authors are prof. Jan Tu and Dr. Jacek Dudek.
The first dragons will be located at:-
Surveyor’s Dragon – al. Dembowskiego, in the area of Primary School No. 29
Tourist Dragon – Bednarski Park
Painter’s Dragon – pl. Axentowicz,
Dragon with a map – Krakowski Park
Dragon with a kite – Park Jordana.
Filmmaker Dragon – Kino Kijów
Water Dragon – pl. Na Groblach
The locations where the figures are placed have been selected to allow the new dragons to “make themselves at home” in the city.
Ten more dragons will appear in the coming year.
These will be: Smok Sportowiec (Zbigniew Brzeziński square), Smok z Metro (ul. Kopernika, near St. Nicholas Church), Smok z Litera K (square at the intersection of ul. Krakowska and ul. Rybaki), Smok Żołnierz CK (Rondo Mogilskie at Bastion V Lubicz – Kraków Fortress), Dragon Doctor (ul. Kopernika 40, in front of the entrance to the Department of Surgery of the Jagiellonian University), Dragon Astronomer (ul. Kopernika 27, in front of the entrance to the Botanical Garden), Dragon Lajkonik (Konik Zwierzyniecki square), Dragon ” Emausowy” (ul. Kościuszki), Smok Fotograf (ul. Rakowicka 22A), Smok Romantyk (at the Father Bernatka footbridge).

24 HOUR SUN DIAL UNVEILED
A 24 hour sun dial (24-godzinn zegar słoneczny) has been unveiled which shows the time after sunset or in cloudy weather, when traditional sun dials would stop working. When the light fades, a solar powered laser is used to illuminate the time.
The new attraction has appeared at pl. Wielkiej Armii Napoleona/Powiśle

PRESIDENT MAJCHROWSKI NOT RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION
The President of Kraków, Jacek Majchrowski (77) announced this week that he would not be running for re-election as President of Kraków at the upcoming elections. Majchrowski served 5 terms as President for 21 years, the longest period in the history of Kraków.

WEATHER WARNING
A weather warning of ‘freezing precipitation’ and strong winds of up to 45kph, with gusts up to 80kph, has been issued, by IMiGW, the Meteorology service valid from 11am to 8pm on 23rd November.

DE-ICING TRAM
A special MPK de-icing tram will travel on Krakow’s tracks this week. The tram is fitted with a special device which applies a special agent to the cables which protects them against icing.
CHRISTMAS MARKET OPENS THIS WEEKEND
The magic of Christmas returns to Rynek, with the opening of the Christmas Market, which runs from 24th November to 1st January 2024.
