Who can resist a good movie? If you’re looking for indoor entertainment options, I’ve put together a short guide to Kraków cinemas.
Fortunately Kraków has a wide variety of cinemas (kino), to offer filmgoers, from multiplex to wonderful award winning art cinema houses.
To help you choose, we’ve provided you with a guide to Krakow’s cinemas, you just need to supply the popcorn.
Dubbing/Subtitles
For non-Polish speakers you should check that the film will be subtitled, (napisy) in English. Even when the original languages of the movie is English, they will sometimes be dubbed (Lektor) in Polish.
Please check out the film language and if it is dubbed or subtitled, otherwise, non-Polish speakers may be in for a disappointment.
The general rule is that many films will be in the original language with Polish subtitles, the exceptions being kids films and cartoons and international (non-English language) films, for example I watched a French movie recently which was subtitled in Polish. Some cinemas have foreign language movie nights.
INDY & ART HOUSE CINEMAS
Old Town
KINO POD BARANAMI
Located in one of the most luxurious buildings of what can be considered the heart of the city, the Market Square, this is not just a regular cinema, but one of the most loved institutions of Kraków, thanks to its broad offer as well as its beautiful interiors, giving the impression of being taken straight from the previous century. Most of the city’s premieres take place here.
The award winning cinema (best cinema in Europe & Poland) co-operates with many festivals, providing more than just a regular repertoire. Here, you can enjoy the diversity of European cinema (but not only), as most films are presented with English subtitles at least once. Every week, you can also attend a night discussion club meeting, organised by the UJ students, during which, apart from the screening, you’ll have a chance to listen to the introductory lecture as well as take part in the debate afterwards. The lectures are usually held in Polish, but during the discussion, they easily switch to English in case any foreigner appears. Rynek Glowny 27
