TEDx Kraków Salon – ‘Redefining Culture’
14th April 2016 @ 18:30
What’s “culture?” Sure, we can all “feel” it, but when we try to define it, the lines start to get a little blurry, and things get just a little bit complicated. Defining a culture is its own struggle; as a culture has many moving parts — from shared beliefs, values, attitudes, and traditions; to race, religion, language, history, and geography. And of course, who can forget the fun stuff, like a culture’s trademark cuisine, art, and music?
This month, TEDxKrakow is exploring globalisation, multiculturalism, and how the moving parts of a culture affect its identity — and that of the individuals within it. So, we thought, what better place to host us than the beautiful International Cultural Centre, located right in Krakow’s main square? An institution focused on promoting international dialogue, the ICC is also venue that is inherently representative of Krakow’s unique cultural heritage.
This month’s TEDxKrakowSalon is designed to explore the varying answers to some very open ended questions, for example:
Are all of us headed towards a global culture?
What will future generations look like, and how will their mixed identities redefine culture as we know it today?
What parts of our culture do we want to pass on?
Conversely, what parts do we think might “die off” over time, and what parts from other cultures might we like to adopt into our own? (Kebab, anyone?)
Join us as we collectively define our own identities through culture, locally — and reflect on what happens when they are redefined, globally.
