Beware Wild Viennoiserie! Is it a croissant or giant cross ant?

What’s the difference between a Croissant and an Iguana?, not much apparently!

Kraków animal welfare (KTOZ) officers received a report of an unusual beast hiding in a tree, which turned out to be something quite unexpected. The story has gone viral, adding some humour to these difficult times.

BREAKING NEWS!
Kraków Expats Directory sent our nature reporter on an expedition to spot the Kraków ‘Laguna”, he was extremely lucky to capture this incredibly rare shot of a mating pair.

When  animal welfare officers visited the location to investigate, and perhaps try to trap the scary exotic creature, they discovered that the beast striking terror into local residents wasn’t an Iguana,  bird, limbless animal, insect or even a giant cross ant, it was a discarded Croissant, most likely intended as a delicacy for the birds!

“People aren’t opening their windows because they’re afraid it will go into their house,” a local resident reportedly said.

Writing on their Facebook, the organisation said its officers had asked the desperate caller whether the unidentified animal, which had been in the tree for two days, could be a bird of prey.

The conversation was reported as:-

“Come and get him! Desperation sounds in the woman’s voice.

“But who, ma’am?” – I ask

“This creature !!!   He’s been sitting in a tree opposite the block for two days! People do not open windows because they are afraid that it will enter their home!”

“But what is it, ma’am?” Maybe some sick bird of prey?”  – I try to guide the woman, her voice seems to be growing hysterical.

“No! It is not a bird!”

“What does it look like? – I ask, because I would like to know what to expect.”

“It’s brown, it’s sitting on a tree and this is the … well, that … lagoon! The lady exclaims, pleased that she has finally remembered the right word.

“I can barely keep my face serious. Lagun? What could it be…?”

“Maybe an iguana? I take a look at the calendar, but today is not the first of April.

“Yes, an iguana! He has been sitting here for two days and everyone is afraid of him! So when are you coming for it? – the vision of rescue clearly contributes to the disappearance of hysteria, and the growth – of enthusiasm. Who, after all, would not enjoy the visit of the perky and brave inspectors – iguanas slayers, late grandsons of St. George and the shoemaker Dratewka …?

If you’re confused about the ‘Laguna’ reference, so was I.  The woman reported to KTOZ that the ‘beast’  looked more like a “lagun” – Polish for lagoon – before remembering the correct word “legwan”, or iguana. The Krakow Animal Welfare Society (KTOZ) confirmed that the incident was genuine.

The KTOZ inspectors saw the funny side of the strange encounter and added that the public should continue to err on the side of caution and report any concerns about animal welfare.
