Night of Museums 2023

Noc Muzeów w Krakowie 2023

This Friday, 19th-20th May, the 19th edition of the popular Museum Night (Noc Muzeów w Krakowie 2023) will take place.

“Rhythms of the Font” („Rytmy czcionki”) is the theme for this year, which refers to the 550th anniversary of the first printing in Poland. Exactly 550 years ago, in the Krakow workshop of the Bavarian printer Kasper Straube, an astronomical and astrological wall calendar was printed – “Almanach Cracoviense ad annum 1474”. This event marked the beginning of the history of printing – “black art” in Poland, taking the culture of the Renaissance on the Vistula River to a completely new level.

More than 60 establishments will take part this year.  Most museums extend their opening hours for Museum Night, with special programmes which include permanent and temporary exhibitions, making available unique places that are normally inaccessible to visitors, as well as special attractions: workshops, multimedia presentations, shows and guided tours.

This 19th edition will include new partners: Galicia Jewish Museum, Kościuszko Museum – Kościuszko Mound, Museum of Toys, Museum of Comics.  Special attractions were also prepared by the National Bank of Poland – Branch in Krakow and the Provincial Police Headquarters in Krakow.

Since 2004 the cities museums and galleries have opened their doors for the ‘Night of Museums’ (Noc Muzeów),  modelled on Berlin’s “Lange Nacht der Museen”, as part of the ‘Kraków Nights’ (Krakowskie Noce) series – consisting of Theatre, Dance, Jazz, Poetry and Cracovia Sacra nights.

Admission to most museums is payable, all museums are subject to prior registration and reservations.
Registration and reservations are available on the websites of each museum participating in the Night of Museums.
