Easter events cancelled

Easter Fair, Emaus and Rękawka cancelled due to Covid

Kraków’s traditional Easter events have been cancelled once more this year, due to Covid.  The Easter Fair, Emaus and Rekąwka festivals have all been cancelled. In the case of the Easter Fair, the city have provided an alternative Online Easter Fair.

Rękawka
The Rękawka Fair usually takes place around Krakus Mound (Kopiec Krakusa) on the first Tuesday after Easter.  Rękawka is popular with young and old alike, and is one of our favourites.  It features, a mock medieval village, together with displays and battle re-enactments.

The cancellation was announced on the organisers Facebook Page.

′′ Ladies and gentlemen, We regret to inform you that due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, government restrictions limiting cultural institutions and the existing ban on mass events, the organisers are forced to decide not to organise the Traditional Rekąwka Festival on 6th April, 2021

The event organised on Tuesday after Easter has always gathered an extremely large audience and we are convinced that it would be this year. However, we decided to take this step for the sake of the health of all participants of the event – residents of Podgórze, Krakowians and guests, members of reconstruction groups and exhibitors. Given the unique nature of the situation we are in, we hope that our decision will meet your understanding ′′

The organisers ended their Facebook announcement with a message teasing;  “we are preparing a certain surprise related to the Sleeve. We will keep you updated on everything”

Emaus
The Emaus festival, traditionally takes place on Easter Monday in Salwator, with a parade, and several stalls lining the street, offering a selection of food, toys and treats, some arts and crafts, but often tacky cheap plastic toys and balloons.

The organisers have suggested that the stall operators can instead take part in the May Festival, Covid restrictions permitting.

“People who planned to sell at randomly selected positions will be offered the opportunity to sell during the Zwierzyniecki Fair on the May weekend – of course, if the conditions permit,” adds Michał Pyclik.
In normal times, one of the highlights of the Easter period, is the popular and colorful Easter Fair on Rynek. The Easter market consists of dozens of stalls selling easter arts and crafts, painted eggs and all things Easter, together with a programme of traditional performances.
Due to the cancellation of the fair, the City of Kraków have provided an online interactive Easter Fair map, allowing sellers to offer their goods virtually.

In addition, the map will also show institutions (museums, community centres, etc.) which have prepared a special cultural offer during the Easter period, together with information about Krakow’s Easter traditions, prepared by the Krakow Museum.
