Michael Carpenter denies US Ambassador to Poland rumours

“the rumour that I’m a candidate to become ambassador is not true”

Polish media and social media has been buzzing with rumours that Michael Carpenter, was in the running to be the next United States ambassador to Poland.

Much of the interest, and the many overwhelming messages of support centred around the fact that Carpenter is gay, and was expected to be accompanied on his posting to Poland, by his husband and their two children.

Sadly, some of the twitter messages were less supportive, and all too predictable.

Carpenter, who reportedly has Polish roots, had earlier taken to Twitter to acknowledge the sudden surge in followers from Poland. Tweeting on Friday, ‘Wow, so many followers from Poland today. Witam serdecznie”

Much to the disappointment of many on Twitter, Michael Carpenter has now tweeted that the rumours are not true, however he would continue to support US Polish relations.

“I’m deeply moved by the outpouring of support, greetings and warm wishes from across Poland but the rumor that I’m a candidate to become ambassador is not true. I’ve every intention to continue my work on strengthening US-Polish relations, but not from that position.”
