12th May 2016 @ 11:00

ENGLISH VERSION BELOW

„Kazimierz bez słów” – to zbiór fotografii Bogdan Frymorgena, poświęconych dawnej żydowskiej dzielnicy Krakowa.

Byli Polakami! Nie tylko moi dziadkowie milczeli. Zawiodła mnie także moja edukacja. Przez 8 lat chodziłem do szkoły podstawowej im. Janusza Korczaka.

Zasiada w radzie nadzorczej Żydowskiego Muzeum Galicja w Krakowie.

Miodowej 22 w Krakowie.

Wystawa jest częścią Kraków Photo Fringe.

„Kazimierz without Words” – is a collection of photographs taken by Bogdan Frymorgen in the old Jewish Quarter of Kraków. The author endeavors to capture the metaphorical emptiness of this place. His camera follows the contemporary traces of Kazimierz’s history.

“I was born 17 years after the end of World War II in a small Polish town, just a few kilometers from Auschwitz. Yet throughout my childhood I was surrounded by a strange silence. No one talked about the Jews. It was the silence that made no sense. After all they were our neighbours, friends and business partners. They were fellow Poles. It wasn’t just my grandparents who must have remembered but decided to keep quiet. My formal education failed me in this respect as well. For eight years I went to the primary school named after Janusz Korczak. I was told he was a Polish doctor who died in Treblinka death camp along with the children from the orphanage he ran in Warsaw. I remember his pictures on classroom walls. However, Korczak died not because he was a Pole. He died because he was a Jew. Somehow my teachers failed to mention that Janusz Korczak was Jewish, and that the children who died with him were Jewish too”.

Bogdan Frymorgen works as the British correspondent of Radio RMF FM. He has had numerous exhibitions in Poland. He is a publisher and art curator. He also sits on the supervisory board of the Galicia Jewish Museum in Krakow.

The exhibition will be open between 12th May till 12th June.
Opening of the exhibition with the participation of the photographer Bogdan Frymorgen will take place on 20th May 2016 at 18:00 in LueLue Gallery, Miodowa 22 st. Kraków.
